un women

This mapping study (contracted by UN Women) identified key challenges to women’s equitable participation in extractive industries (EIs) in Tanzania. It also identified opportunities for economic empowerment. DPC conducted qualitative research through extensive literature reviews, personal interviews, stakeholder interviews and focus group discussions. Key findings included the different types of challenges facing self-employed women, and women employed by the large EI companies. Key recommendations were put forward in workshops and a final report, and will assist stakeholders to work together to improve women’s roles in EIs.
